Mechanism of Action

Cerebrolysin is a standardised mixture of low molecular weight neuropeptides and free amino acids derived from purified porcine brain proteins via enzymatic digestion. The active peptide fractions cross the blood-brain barrier and mimic the activity of endogenous neurotrophic factors: BDNF, NGF, GDNF, and NT-3. They activate Trk receptor signalling, promote neuronal survival, enhance synaptic plasticity, reduce oxidative stress and beta-amyloid toxicity, and stimulate adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus.
