Mechanism of Action

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide based on the ACTH(4-7) sequence (Met-Glu-His-Phe) extended with Pro-Gly-Pro for stability. It lacks the adrenocorticotropic activity of ACTH but retains neurotrophic signalling, upregulating BDNF and NGF via melanocortin receptor-independent pathways. It activates the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, increases VEGF expression in neurons, and reduces oxidative stress following ischaemic injury.
