Mechanism of Action

Pinealon (Glu-Asp-Arg, EDR) is a synthetic tripeptide corresponding to one of the active sequences isolated from pineal gland extract by the same St. Petersburg group that developed Epithalon. It penetrates cell nuclei and selectively activates genes encoding antioxidant enzymes, melatonin-synthesis regulators, and neuroprotective factors. It reduces accumulation of lipofuscin in neurons and protects against oxidative stress-induced apoptosis.
