Mechanism of Action

SLUPP-332 is a synthetic peptide agonist of the alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (alpha7 nAChR), a homomeric ligand-gated ion channel highly expressed in hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. Alpha7 nAChR activation increases Ca2+ influx, activating CaMKII and downstream CREB-mediated transcription of plasticity genes. It also reduces neuroinflammation via NF-kB suppression and promotes BDNF release from hippocampal interneurons.
