Mechanism of Action

LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin, cleaved from the hCAP18 precursor by serine proteases. It disrupts bacterial membranes through electrostatic interaction with anionic lipids, forming toroidal pores. It binds and neutralises LPS (endotoxin), blocking TLR4 activation. It also acts as a chemokine (via FPR2 receptor on immune cells), promotes re-epithelialisation, and modulates TLR2/3/4/9 signalling in both pro- and anti-inflammatory directions depending on context.
