Mechanism of Action

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone sharing the alpha subunit with LH, FSH, and TSH, with a unique beta subunit (hCG-beta) that provides receptor specificity. It binds the LH/hCG receptor (LHCGR) on Leydig cells in the testes with high affinity, activating cAMP-PKA signalling to drive steroidogenic enzyme expression (StAR, CYP11A1, CYP17A1, HSD3B1) and testosterone production. It also acts on Sertoli cells to support spermatogenesis via FSH-independent mechanisms.
