Mechanism of Action

ARA-290 is an 11-amino acid cyclic helix B peptide derived from the tertiary structure of erythropoietin. It specifically activates the Innate Repair Receptor (IRR), a heterodimer of the EPO receptor and the common beta-chain (betac), without activating the homodimeric EPO receptor responsible for erythropoiesis. IRR activation triggers anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory signalling in peripheral neurons, macrophages, and tissue repair cells, with no effect on haematocrit.
